The Best of Steampunk Television . . .

You are cordially invited to partake in discussions about your favourite Steampunk TV shows. From Anime to Firefly to Torchwood, anything goes; if you think it's Steampunk and you love it, tell us why!

Over on our Facebook page, for the whole of Octover, we will be hosting a discussion about Steampunk in television. The aim here is simple: to get a bit of a dialogue going about one of our favourite genres, and introduce people to some new shows they might not have heard of before, but will love as much as we do for their quirky goodness.

To kick start things, I'm offering up Canadian series Sanctuary. It ran for four seasons and aired on SyFi between October 2008 and December 2011 and it was EPIC, staring Stargate favourite Amanda Tapping, Robin Dunne, Ryan Robbins and Christopher Heyerdahl. I loved this show for it's ambitious CG sets (which almost worked really well), Amanda Tapping's British accent, the toys, the beasties, and the plots – my particular favourite being Pavor Nocturnus, zombie apocalypse done in style. The show features some of Steampunks favourite themes, including Hollow Earth, one of the central themes of our forthcoming novella, Encante. Guest characters include Jack the Ripper, Spring Heeled Jack and Nikola Tesla.

If you're a fan of Sci-Fi, and in particular the quirkier types of series, which tend to have hugely loyal fan bases but are canceled after only a few seasons (if they're lucky enough to last even that long), due to a perception that their fan base is small–think Firefly, Dollhouse, Dead Like Me, Rosswell, Pushing Daisies and Deadwood– then this is definitely for you.

Seen it? Tell us what you think!

A new show will be introduced every few days, and those who have joined the even will be invited to comment. You are of course all welcome to make suggestions for shows to be discussed, and post your favourites snap shots and quotes in the event.

One thing to note, although we are running this for a whole month, the nature of Facebook events means they are set up for a day. Please do not let this discourage you.

Come one over and join in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
